Our Story
We are the artists behind South Austin Gallery, a small business conceptualized over time, inspired by the growing infuence of our community. All of our handmade gift products are made by us, using predominately USA raw materials.
As artists, it is important to us to create a connection between us and our customers. After many years of selling our photography, our style and subject matter has organically morphed into what it is today; a portfolio of each city's character, vibe, and artistic backdrop. Our goal is to capture our customers' memories, bridging a connection between us and our community, all stemming from the shared pride we have for our chosen environment. It all began in Austin, and we have photographed cities in over 14 states.
A lot of research goes into shooting each city. We spend hours educating ourselves on what makes the city of our choice unique compared to others. We chat with our customers, listening to their stories and experiences, suggestions and advice, all while building a list of local businesses and artists that offer visual inspiration.
Our process and products
We complete each step of our process ourselves. It begins with our photos. We then use a unique multi-step heat process called dye-sublimation to transfer our images onto our products, which include ceramic coasters, dog tags, magnets, metal bottle openers, mugs, ornaments, and tempered-glass (dishwasher safe) cutting boards,. This process allows our images to absorb into the sublimation surface of our products, minimizing the risk of it peeling, scratching, or fading.
