The Castro Theatre was built in 1922 by pioneer San Francisco theatre entrepreneurs, the Nasser brothers, who started with a nickelodeon in 1908 in the Castro neighborhood. Recognized as a popular San Francisco movie palace, this is one of the last 1920s movie palaces still operating which helped it become San Francisco Historic Landmark #100 in September 1976.
