A group of like-minded restaurant and bar owners in Houston recognized a need for a public voice for independent businesses in the industry. In 2011, they founded OKRA, the Organized Collaboration on Restaurant Affairs, to pursue community and charitable initiatives in the city. As a co-op of industry vets serving light fare & drinks at a central bar in vintage loft digs, guests receive one vote for each drink purchased. With that vote, they may select one of four local charities to support, hand-picked by OKRAs members. The charity with the most votes at the end of the month receives the next months proceeds.
