Prairie Dog Town was established in the early 1930s by Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy N. Clapp. What started as the first protected prairie dog colony with four dogs and two burrows quickly became a growing site in Mackenzie State Park gaining nation-wide attention and millions of tourists.
