Originally established in 1871, the Phoenix Saloon was the first bar in the state of Texas to serve women. It had a beer garden with a bell in a tree for service, an alligator pit, badger fights, live music weekly, and a parrot inside the front door trained to say “Have you paid your bill?’” Though closed in 1918 due to the prohibition period, this chili parlor rose again as a historic Texas bar and live music venue.
