Starting as a saloon in the 1900s, Mama Schilo started serving her classic German recipes in 1917 after relocating to San Antonio. During the prohibition era, many of Schilos neighbors and competitors closed its doors, allowing this to be one of the only eateries still open. Now a veteran German deli, Schilo serves hearty sandwiches, soup and homemade root beer in a 19th-century building.
