Joy theater was earlier known as "The New Lyric Theatre," which opened February 16, 1928. It was renamed Joyo Theatre on January 24, 1936. Bought in 1998 by Dwight F. Carter, this old theatre hosts several events, including movies (both old and new), live bands, birthday parties, school matinees, Nebraska Cornhusker football games, church services, and live play performances.
